Objectives

The project "Travel to Transformation! – Walking the Paths of the Past Towards the Future" has a clear goal of empowering young people with fewer opportunities through experiential learning and mobility. Through four carefully designed routes – Osijek-Rome, Osijek-Athens, Osijek-Erfurt (Bauhaus Tour), and Castle Hunt in Romania (Osijek-Brașov) – participants will explore European history, art, and culture while simultaneously developing key competencies for personal and professional growth. This project stems from Udruga Kreaktiva’s long-standing work with young people from marginalized groups. Previous DiscoverEU projects have demonstrated how travel can be a turning point in young people's lives – from their first experience outside of Croatia to increased self-confidence and active participation in local and international initiatives. The project is designed to address the specific needs of participants facing financial, social, health, and geographical barriers that limit their participation in international activities. Each route allows participants to learn through experience, with a focus on inclusivity and support. The trips will be implemented based on the preferences of the group. At this stage, we do not have an exact plan or a monthly schedule for when they should travel. The journey to Rome will enable them to explore cultural heritage while developing digital skills through the creation of multimedia content. The Athens route will take participants through Belgrade, Skopje, Thessaloniki, and Sofia, allowing them to learn about historical connections between the Balkans and the Mediterranean. In Romania, the thematic "Castle Hunt" will provide an opportunity to analyze how history shapes contemporary European identities. The Bauhaus Tour will introduce participants to architecture and design, encouraging them to explore innovative ideas and connect them with their own creative potential. Project preparations include financial literacy workshops, travel simulations, language training, and group dynamics activities to ensure that participants are well-prepared for the experience. Each participant will have a mentor who will monitor their progress, while parents and guardians will be involved through regular meetings and information groups. During the journey, participants will take on active roles, from planning daily activities to leading interactive workshops and social media updates, fostering their responsibility and initiative. Upon returning, the project continues through reflective activities such as art therapy, digital storytelling, culinary workshops, and presentations in schools and local communities. Each participant will receive a Youthpass certificate, and the project team will ensure long-term impact tracking through individual evaluations and systematic analysis of outcomes. With this project, we aim to provide young people with an opportunity for change – through travel, cultural interactions, and competency-building, they will empower themselves for future opportunities. We want them to feel like an integral part of the European community, aware of their abilities and ready to apply them in further education and employment. This is not just a trip – it is an opportunity for personal and social transformation.
