Objectives

The “Center & Flow” project was implemented with the aim of supporting youth workers who are exposed to high levels of mental and emotional pressure in their professional lives, and who may already experience signs of burnout, exhaustion, or loss of motivation. The project aimed to provide practical methods and tools based on the holistic philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine in order to strengthen participants’ resilience, mental well-being, and long-term professional sustainability. Throughout the training process, special emphasis was placed on helping participants gain new perspectives on balance, self-awareness, and emotional stability, while also developing their competences in the field of digital youth work in line with the European Training Strategy competence framework. Another important objective of the project was to equip youth workers with innovative and up-to-date methods that respond to the specific challenges faced by Generation Z, particularly in relation to the impact of social media, climate anxiety, cyberbullying, radicalisation, and the growing number of mental health issues among young people. Social inclusion and equal opportunities also played a key role in the project. We aimed to involve professionals working with disadvantaged or vulnerable young people, as well as youth workers who themselves may be affected by stress, exhaustion, or burnout. The project sought to create a supportive learning environment that contributed not only to the participants’ own mental and physical well-being, but also strengthened their capacity to support young people more effectively in their daily work. Through the 10-day residential training course and the complementary online learning process, we created a complex learning experience combining the Five Elements methodology, outdoor experiential education, artistic self-expression, Qi Gong and martial arts techniques, as well as the Elemental Harmony Coaching method. This integrated approach supported both personal development and professional competence building. Another important aim of the project was to promote wider recognition of resilience and mental health protection within the field of youth work and non-formal education, while also contributing to the long-term sustainability and social recognition of youth work itself.
