We wanted to provide the opportunity of the Sail Training experience to more young people by creating access to development training programmes onboard tall ships for young people from all backgrounds and with all abilities. Aslo we wanted to promote an intercultural exchange between two Island nations in Ireland and Malta. Based on its experience, STIRL feels that in addition to our core objectives of personal and group development using the sail training experience as a platform for learning, it has the following objectives: (a)Participants- The transferable skills gained from the project and their application to future employment opportunities, in particular to careers in the maritime sector. b) Inclusion of marginalised young people, including those with disabilites. (c) Improving collaboration between partner organisations. (d) Promoting the participants confidence and willingness to take a more constructive role within in society. (e) make the participants aware of the environmental impact society is having particularly on our seas, oceans and surrounding coastlines.
