- We wanted to give young people aged 18-30 with fewer opportunities a chance to go to another EU country and collaborate with another EU group around the concept of creating a safe space for young people that are free from substances and alcohol. The overall aims for the exchange were: . To create a sense of connection for young people who feel isolated and dis-connected from other young people. - Increase awareness that alternative opportunities exist even if a young person, for whatever reason, needs to avoid social activities that are centred around alcohol and substance use. - To increase the resilience, sense of independence and mental health skills of participants. These include identifying early warning signs of mental health decline, increasing wellness tools, avoiding a mental health crisis, applying emotion regulation and distress tolerance skill. - To provide an opportunity for young people with fewer opportunities to gain from different cultural experiences and attitudes within the EU, particularly around mental health and wellness for young people. - To give an opportunity for a group of vulnerable young people to visit an EU country in a group setting, with other young people, but with the right supports to ensure they feel safe and supported at each stage - To connect and learn from young people from diverse backgrounds based in another EU country and to benefit from the workshops and courses the partner organisation will provide - To enhance the life skills and confidence of participants in a youth led project where their needs and voices are heard and respected - To enhance the interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills of the young people with each other and also with the young people from another EU country. - To facilitate conversations on the supports available, norms and attitudes of the different countries, particularly in their approach to mental health issues and substance misuse - To promote the young peoples sense of European belonging
