We travelled with 2 groups of young people with a high level of additional/mental health challenges. These young people have shown massive interest in travelling to other countries with peers rather than family to experience a peer-led experience of different cultures and opportunities in the EU. However, because of their additional needs, they would have difficulty in being sufficiently independent to travel without support with their peers. This project allowed them the opportunity to discover the EU with some of their peers, benefiting from the personal development of the trip, while also having supports in place to ensure their safety and wellbeing to make the trip possible. The objectives of the project was to : - To allow young people with fewer opportunities to explore the diversity of Europe, particularly Germany and Italy with group 1 and The Netherlands, Belgium & France for group 2 - gain a sense of European identity - experience the cultural and historical heritage of Germany and Italy - connect with other like-minded young people in a European Country while remaining safe and supported - Gain from the personal development that is achieved with broadening their horizons through travelling. Because these participants in particular are young people with fewer opportunities, the project also aimed to: - Overcome the obstacles that prevent these young people to directly participate in the Discover EU general application round and provide the necessary support that they need so that they are able to travel In line with the objectives of The Erasmus+ Programme, the objectives identified for the project was also to: - give young people the chance to learn about Europe but also to discover Europe’s opportunities for their future education and life choices; - equip young people with knowledge, life skills and competences of value to them; - encourage connection and intercultural dialogue between the young people; - foster the young people’s sense of belonging to the European Union; - inspire young people to embrace sustainable travel in particular and environmental conscience in general.
