Project Objectives and Contributions This project aimed to increase environmental awareness, develop a deeper understanding of archaeobotany, and promote sustainable practices among young people. Our project provided young people with the necessary tools, knowledge, and experiences to actively participate in environmental protection and sustainability efforts. We also aimed to empower young people to become ambassadors of environmental change in their communities and beyond. From a youth work perspective, our objectives were: Environmental Education: Participants were equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the importance of environmental sustainability; archaeobotany and its role in the conservation of natural and cultural heritage were emphasized. In this context, the interactions between humans and plants throughout history were learned, and the relationship of this knowledge to current environmental problems was discussed. Personal and Social Development: Participants gained personal development and social responsibility through collaborative activities that developed leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Our project aimed to empower young people to take responsibility for the environment and encourage others to do the same. Cultural Awareness and Change: Young people from Iceland, Turkiye, Croatia, Georgia, and Ukraine were brought together to strengthen intercultural dialogue and cooperation. Our project provided participants with the opportunity to learn about different cultures, share perspectives on environmental issues, and work across borders to find solutions to global environmental problems. Sustainability Practices: Young people were encouraged to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives; practical examples and opportunities were provided during project activities. Youth Empowerment and Community Participation: Through our project, young people were empowered to become active citizens who can drive environmental change. Participants learned to advocate for sustainable policies and practices in their communities, thus contributing to a broader global movement for environmental protection. Capacity Building in Youth Work: Our project strengthened the capacity of youth workers and organizations; innovative training approaches combining environmental education with youth work were developed. Youth workers were provided with new tools and methodologies to engage young people in sustainability-focused projects. Through these goals, the project was ensured to have a lasting impact on participants, communities, and the youth work sector.
