The Inside Out 2.0 project is a training course aimed at equipping youth workers with practical skills and knowledge to engage with and effectively support NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), marginalized, and disengaged youth. The results of the "Inside Out" project (2023-1-IS01-KA210-You-000160096), offered critical insights into the potential of outdoor education and experiential learning in addressing mental health challenges and fostering societal integration for NEET youth. The project highlighted the importance of providing youth workers with training in specific skills and exposure to key topics to enhance local initiatives. Importantly, it also revealed the value of network exchanges between professionals, enabling the co-creation of innovative strategies for engaging marginalized young people. Inside Out 2.0 builds upon the lessons learned while introducing new strategies rooted in nature-based solutions and experiential learning, equipping youth workers to better address the needs of NEET youth. By integrating outdoor education, experiential learning, and nature-based solutions, the project addresses the specific challenges these young people face while reinforcing mental well-being, social inclusion, and personal development. The program's key objectives include: /Enhance youth work through outdoor and experiential learning: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of theoretical models, principles, and applications of outdoor education, including adventure-based learning, as tools to support youth development and build resilience, leadership, and interpersonal skills. /Develop practical facilitation skills: Participants will experience, test, and reflect on a variety of outdoor education methods—such as hiking, navigation exercises, group survival challenges, and hands-on nature-based activities. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on how these methods can be integrated into their daily practices to engage marginalized and disengaged youth more effectively. /Understanding the role of the environment in learning: Highlight the environment's significance in youth education and personal development, particularly for those from marginalized backgrounds. Environmental-focused settings offer unique opportunities for learning, relationship-building, and mental well-being, and this will be a focal point of the training. /Address mental well-being through nature-based approaches: The training will explore stress management, emotional resilience, and well-being support strategies, emphasizing how outdoor education can serve as a tool for youth facing integration and social challenges. /Identifying risk and protective factors: Train participants to identify and assess risk and protective factors that influence the lives of marginalized youth. By understanding these factors, youth workers can tailor their interventions more effectively to the specific needs of each individual, thereby supporting their mental and emotional well-being, and building resilience among young people in vulnerable situations. /Train youth workers in non-formal education methodologies: The project will provide hands-on training in non-formal learning techniques, ensuring that participants leave with adaptable, participatory tools that can be applied in different cultural and social contexts. These are important tools for fostering engagement among disengaged youth. /Foster professional exchange and networking: Inside Out 2.0 creates an opportunity for peer learning and best practice exchange, strengthening international collaboration among youth workers, trainers, and organizations working with NEET and disengaged youth. /Support local impact through follow-up activities: Participants will be required to implement a local pilot initiative, applying newly acquired skills with their youth groups, testing methodologies, and further disseminating the project’s impact. /Make learning materials accessible: To ensure that its impact extends beyond direct participants, the compilation of a collection of training materials will be made accessible. The materials will be publicly available ensuring that a wider network of youth professionals can benefit from and apply the project’s results in their own communities. The project empowers youth workers to use outdoor education as a transformative tool, ensuring that the most vulnerable youth receive effective, engaging, and inclusive support through non-traditional, experience-driven methodologies.
