Despite land abandonment still posing a serious threat to the preservation of European rural systems, there has recently been a rise of "new shepherds" across Europe. SHEP4ECO will engage territorial entities and the network of European pastoral schools to develop an innovative professional profile, tailored to provide ecosystem services through pastoral activities, thereby contributing to environmental protection. This model will be validated and applied in at least three EU countries.
