The project arose from the need to address deep-rooted prejudices and negative perceptions towards migrants, highlighted by both statistical data and local surveys conducted by the young people involved. The analysis of opinions, collected through anonymous questionnaires, showed a worrying trend: a significant percentage of young people in the participating communities express resistance or opposition to welcoming migrants. These data confirm a widespread problem of misinformation and lack of awareness about the reasons why people migrate, their experiences and current migration policies. The Fundamental Rights Report 2023 of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) highlighted that many migrants and asylum seekers in Europe continue to experience discrimination, racism and intolerance, painting an alarming picture that requires urgent action to promote inclusion and combat prejudice. Moreover, the media context, often characterised by distorted and alarmist narratives, contributes to consolidating unjustified stereotypes and fears, further exacerbating discrimination. Therefore, needs emerge related to the need to promote a deeper knowledge of the migration phenomenon, develop empathy through direct confrontation and foster intercultural dialogue as a tool to overcome cultural barriers. At the same time, there is a strong need to educate young people on the fundamental values of the European Union, such as solidarity, inclusion and tolerance, stimulating them to become active citizens able to consciously face the social and economic challenges of their time. The lack of safe and structured spaces for constructive exchange between young people from different cultural and geographical backgrounds also highlights the need for non-formal learning opportunities that can foster mutual understanding and the development of key competences for European citizenship. The main objectives of the project are - To foster the development of tolerance and solidarity through the sharing of authentic information and experiences about migrants and asylum seekers. This objective is crucial to counteract prejudices and distorted narratives that often fuel discrimination and intolerance. Enabling young people to come into direct contact with real stories helps to dismantle stereotypes and promotes a more empathetic understanding of migrants' experiences. - Promoting intercultural dialogue and respect for human rights encourages a more inclusive and welcoming outlook. This objective is essential for building societies based on social cohesion, where cultural diversity is seen as a resource. Intercultural dialogue helps participants to develop skills of listening, understanding and mutual respect, which are essential to meet the challenges of a globalised society. - To improve the key competences of young participants, in particular those related to intercultural communication and social understanding. This objective aims to equip young people with practical tools to successfully navigate multicultural contexts and to act as promoters of change in their communities. Skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution and the ability to build positive relationships are crucial both personally and professionally. - To foster the active participation of young people in the life of society, developing their sense of citizenship and European identity. This objective is crucial for strengthening young people's involvement in decisions that influence their future and for fostering a sense of belonging to the European Union. Greater participation helps to create a generation of aware, responsible and committed citizens. - Strengthen the work of NGO partners in combating radicalisation by promoting shared values and building international cooperation networks. This objective is key to tackling the roots of radicalisation and creating a support network that fosters social cohesion. NGO partners will be able to expand their expertise, share good practices and work together more effectively to prevent social exclusion and extremism. The project will not be limited to its natural duration, but will include a long-term plan with activities that will continue to raise awareness and involve all stakeholders. This approach will ensure that the project's impact will be lasting, helping to build a more inclusive and inclusive society. The continuity of post-project activities will further strengthen local and international networks, maximising the transformative effect of the project on participants, partners and communities.
