Objectives

Consumerism has become deeply ingrained in modern society, shaping not only our economic systems but also our behaviors, values, and lifestyles. The relentless pursuit of material possessions, fueled by advertising and societal pressures, has led to a culture of overconsumption, waste, and environmental degradation. Young people are bombarded with messages promoting consumerist ideals, leading to detrimental effects on their well-being, financial literacy, and sense of identity. The objectives of our project are multifaceted, aiming to address the pervasive influence of consumerism on youth and society as a whole. Firstly, we seek to raise awareness among young people about the detrimental effects of consumerism on individual happiness, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability. By developing critical thinking skills and media literacy, we aim to empower youth to resist the pressures of consumer culture and make informed choices that align with their values and aspirations. Furthermore, our project aims to promote consumption that prioritizes well-being, sustainability, and social responsibility. Through interactive activities and discussions, we will explore concepts such as minimalism, conscious consumption, and collaborative consumption. By equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to adopt more sustainable lifestyles, we hope to inspire positive change both at the individual and societal levels. In addition, our project seeks to develop a sense of community and collective action among young people, encouraging them to promote a more equitable and sustainable future. By engaging youth in participatory decision-making processes and community initiatives, we aim to cultivate a sense of agency and empowerment, enabling them to become active agents of change in their communities and beyond. Our project aims to facilitate meaningful intercultural dialogue and exchange among youth from diverse backgrounds. Recognizing that consumerism is a global phenomenon with varied manifestations and impacts across different cultures and contexts, we seek to create opportunities for young people to share their experiences, perspectives, and solutions to address consumerist trends in their respective communities. By promoting cross-cultural understanding and empathy, we hope to challenge stereotypes, bridge divides, and build solidarity among youth from different cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. Through interactive and cultural activities, we aim to create a supportive and inclusive space where young people can learn from each other, challenge assumptions, and co-create innovative solutions to the complex challenges posed by consumerism. By promoting dialogue and cooperation across borders, we aim to reveal creativity of young people to develop culturally sensitive and contextually relevant approaches to addressing consumerist behaviors and promoting more sustainable and equitable modes of living.
