Objectives

Art is a universal language that connects people, tells stories, and preserves culture. In today’s fast-changing world, young artists face numerous challenges. The creative industry is highly competitive, and the path to professional success is uncertain. Many young artists struggle to find work, are undervalued, or even face skepticism from their own communities regarding the legitimacy of art as a profession. The current global situation has also led to significant shifts in migration patterns, including an increasing number of artists relocating to new environments, particularly within Europe. Some have moved in search of better opportunities, while others have remained in their home countries, working to preserve and develop their artistic identity. This has created a new landscape for collaboration, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange, networking, and mutual support. In this context, art serves as a powerful tool for fostering international dialogue and understanding. This project will take place in Lusevera, a small town in Italy, where access to international cultural initiatives is limited. Hosting this exchange in such a location will not only provide young artists with a space for creative exploration but also engage the local community, offering them an opportunity to discover new artistic perspectives. To further enhance this engagement, we will organize an open Fair and Art Market, where participants can share their work and experiences with the public. To ensure the relevance of our project, we have analyzed the current state of youth employment in Italy. As of November 2024, Italy's youth unemployment rate stands at 19.2%. This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by young people in finding stable employment, particularly in creative industries. The situation emphasizes the need for initiatives that equip young artists with the skills, confidence, and opportunities necessary for professional growth. One of the co-authors of the project, Anastasiia Demchenko, as a freelance artist, has faced such problems. She said: "I lost my job just before the pandemic happened and I still can’t find it. The competition is too hard and it is such a challenging time for me. My art work, which I used to sell, is not so popular this time. I do have some orders as a freelance designer but it’s not enough. My close friend who is an artist as well has the same situation. Our self-esteem is so down. And I feel like there are a lot of young people like me and my friend. So I believe that the project will help us". As a project consortium, we aim to address these challenges by providing a platform for young artists to enhance their competencies, develop resilience, and establish meaningful connections within the creative industry. We used a problem and solution tree and formulated the main aim of the project: “To support young artists in discovering and harnessing their potential, enhancing their key competencies and self-esteem, helping them find or create opportunities within the creative industries, and fostering active participation in cultural and community life.” Objectives of the youth exchange: To exchange knowledge about the current state of art professions in the participating countries. To enhance key competencies among young artists, helping them navigate the industry. To boost self-esteem and confidence in their professional artistic paths. To raise awareness about opportunities available for young artists, including funding, residencies, and collaboration networks. To foster an inclusive and inspiring environment where young artists can share, create, and grow together. To connect young artists with the local community through interactive workshops and a final Fair & Art Market, encouraging cross-cultural appreciation. Through this project, we aim to provide young artists with the tools, support, and international networks they need to navigate and thrive within the artistic landscape, contributing to both their personal development and the enrichment of the local cultural scene in Lusevera and beyond.
