Media literacy and tackling disinformationDigital skills and competences

Objectives

With this project, we wanted to offer young people an international space for learning, exchange and active participation focused on fake news and disinformation, phenomena that increasingly affect everyday life, social relations and the quality of democratic participation. The main objective was to strengthen participants’ media literacy by helping them better understand how fake news spreads, how information manipulation works and what social, cultural and political consequences these processes can have. We also wanted to develop young people’s critical thinking by improving their ability to analyse online content, verify sources, recognise misleading or discriminatory messages and use media in a more conscious and responsible way. Another important objective was to promote practical fact-checking and debunking skills, providing participants with concrete tools that they could use in their daily lives and transfer to their local communities. At the same time, the project aimed to strengthen transversal competences such as teamwork, communication in English, creativity, active participation, self-confidence and the ability to cooperate in an intercultural context. The project also sought to increase the sense of European citizenship, intercultural dialogue and awareness of the role of young people as active actors in countering disinformation. Finally, we aimed to produce shareable results, such as awareness-raising materials, digital content and follow-up ideas, capable of extending the project’s impact beyond the group of direct participants.
