Media literacy and tackling disinformationDigital skills and competencesInclusion of marginalised young people

Objectives

In a world where digital content is omnipresent, the ability to discern truth from misinformation is not just a skill but a necessity for informed citizenship. However, many young people in Europe struggle with digital illiteracy, making them vulnerable to misinformation and fake news. According to a study by the European Commission, 50% of young Europeans have encountered disinformation online but lack the skills to critically assess its validity (European Commission, 2020). This gap in media literacy poses a significant threat to informed citizenship and democratic values. The "MediaWise: AI 4 Media Literacy" project aims to bridge this gap by integrating AI technologies into media literacy education. AI, with its unique ability to analyze large volumes of data and identify patterns, provides a effective approach to empowering young people in Europe. It equips them with the tools needed to confidently navigate the complex media landscape and discern credible information from fake news. AI significantly enhances students' ability to recognize disinformation. We will use interactive workshops, role-playing, discussions, structured reflection sessions, and team-building activities to enhance media literacy and critical thinking skills. With "MediaWise: AI 4 Media Literacy," we aim to achieve the following objectives: - Equip young people with critical thinking skills to evaluate the credibility of media content. - Teach participants how to use AI tools to detect and identify misinformation. - Enhance the digital skills of participants through the practical application of AI tools. - Promote intercultural dialogue through media literacy education. - Align with Erasmus+ goals by enhancing education, training, and digital competencies. - Improve the resillience of to misinformation in local communities. This project will significantly enhance participants' critical thinking and media literacy skills, making them more resilient to misinformation. It will also empower them to apply these skills in their communities, developing a culture of informed, responsible media consumption. As participants share their knowledge and experiences, the project will build stronger, more media-literate communities that are better equipped to uphold European values. The project will empower youth with essential skills, supporting a generation of informed, responsible citizens who actively uphold democratic values across Europe. By improving media literacy, we aim to create a more engaged and resilient youth population.
