Basilicata, a region in Southern Italy, is facing significant socioeconomic challenges, characterized by high levels of poverty and social inequality. These problems have a heavy impact on quality of life and social inclusion, especially in rural areas like Pignola, where opportunities are limited. In this context, the Associazione Polisportiva Sport For Life A.S.D. represents a real revolution, becoming a point of reference for community development and cohesion through inclusive sport. Pignola has historically suffered from a lack of adequate sports facilities and initiatives that promote social integration. The Polisportiva Sport For Life A.S.D. was born to fill this gap, offering spaces and programs dedicated to young people and vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, families in economic difficulty and immigrants. The goal is to create concrete opportunities in which young people can grow, develop personal and social skills, and discover the educational potential of sport. The project promotes active participation based on values such as resilience, collaboration, respect for diversity and cultural openness. The activities take place in accessible facilities equipped with modern equipment. To build an effective project, it is essential to understand the real needs of the new generations. The needs of young people emerge through careful observation of the social context, comparison with other young people in the area, schools, families, local associations and institutions, as well as from the direct collection of testimonies from young members of the associations. The difficulties encountered range from the lack of meeting spaces to the lack of opportunities to develop useful skills for the future, through the risk of social isolation and the need to build meaningful relationships. Many young people express the need to acquire transversal skills, such as the ability to work in a team, manage their emotions, develop critical thinking and strengthen their self-esteem. In particular, there is a growing demand for courses that help young people improve their decision-making autonomy and feel like an active part of society. Uncertainty about the future of work and the lack of awareness of their potential emerge as obstacles that limit motivation and individual planning. Through direct comparison with young people, the association collects and analyses these needs, adapting the activities to offer truly meaningful experiences. The goal is to provide young people with concrete tools to face the world with greater confidence, encouraging their involvement in initiatives that make them protagonists of change, both on a personal and community level. To best protect participants, the association adopts a series of specific measures necessary for the success of the activities. Sport is at the center of the project, not only as a physical activity but as a vehicle for emotional and social well-being. Through movement, young participants learn to collaborate, manage emotions and develop leadership and team spirit. Adapted programs also allow children with disabilities to participate fully, thanks to targeted exercises and the assistance of specialized tutors. The initiative is enriched with regular meetings, during which experts address topics such as social inclusion, prevention of bullying and respect for diversity. These moments promote cultural and personal growth, strengthening the bonds between participants. The project benefits from the collaboration with partners who are experts in Erasmus+ initiatives and inclusive sport, who bring knowledge and innovative methodologies. This approach allows to guarantee sustainability and quality, as well as creating a replicable model of social inclusion. The ambition of the Polisportiva Sport For Life A.S.D. is to transform Pignola into a center of excellence for inclusive sport, capable of generating a lasting impact on the territory. Sport thus becomes a tool for positive change, capable of breaking down inequalities, promoting social cohesion and offering everyone the opportunity to grow and contribute to collective well-being. By combining safety, accessibility and active participation, the project demonstrates how even in difficult contexts it is possible to create opportunities and build a better future for the community.
