Objectives

The "Digital Break" project set as its main objective the promotion of critical and conscious reflection on the use of technology among young participants, through a concrete digital detox experience. The underlying idea was simple but ambitious, to step away, at least temporarily, from dependence on smartphones and social media, in order to rediscover more authentic and direct forms of communication, relationship, and learning. Throughout all the days spent together, phone use was reduced to a minimum: some participants had access to their devices only for a few hours a day, during dedicated time slots, while others chose not to use them at all for the entire duration of the project. This choice represented not a deprivation, but a conscious educational challenge, lived collectively. Through a series of non-formal education activities like workshops, group discussions, simulations, creative activities and moments of exchange where participants had the opportunity to reflect on the impact of technology in everyday life, analysing both the opportunities and the risks related to the use of social media and the digital world in general. Themes related to psychological well-being, the construction of online identity, disinformation, and the quality of interpersonal relationships in the digital age all emerged. A further objective of the project was to raise young people's awareness of the opportunities offered by the European Union, particularly within the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes, strengthening a sense of active European citizenship. Finally, great importance was given to interaction with the local community, participants had the opportunity to get to know the area, connect with local associations and citizens, thus contributing to a genuine cultural exchange in the host context.
