Objectives

The project “Leaders: Learning and Experiencing Advocacy to Develop Expression Resources and Skills” was created with the intention of providing young people with a concrete opportunity to strengthen their active participation in society, paying particular attention to their ability to express themselves and have an impact on the decision-making processes that affect them. The idea takes shape from Youth Goal #9, which promotes space and participation for all, and is rooted in a context where young people often do not find adequate opportunities to make their voices heard or to be recognized as an active part of the community. The trigger for this project proposal was the “Will You Make Your Voice Heard?” campaign, promoted by Strauss APS in the run-up to the 2024 European Elections, which highlighted a growing desire for protagonism on the part of the younger generation. However, this will alone is not enough: young people need appropriate tools to turn their determination into effective action. Too often, in local realities, young people are seen as the “future” of the community, but this future seems to be realized only when they leave their local area in search of better educational or employment opportunities. The project therefore aims to reverse this trend, offering young people the tools to build a concrete alternative to forced migration, through a path based on an intercultural approach, personal growth and self-awareness. The goal is thus to strengthen young people's ability to communicate effectively, improving their public speaking and storytelling techniques, and to develop leadership and advocacy skills that can enable them to have a greater impact in society. The project aims to create an environment in which young people can feel an active part of the present, gaining awareness of their role and possibilities for action within the community. This process of personal and collective growth is achieved through activities that encourage confrontation with different realities and stimulate dialogue between young people from different cultural backgrounds.
