Objectives

The project “Cultures at high altitude” was designed to offer young people from different European countries a non-formal learning experience based on intercultural exchange, active participation and the valorisation of rural and mountain areas as educational spaces. The youth exchange took place in an Alpine setting and used the territory, local cultural heritage and direct experience in nature as tools to stimulate dialogue, reflection and cooperation among participants. The overall objective of the project was to promote the personal and social development of young people by strengthening transversal competences such as communication, teamwork, adaptability and critical thinking. In particular, the project aimed to foster intercultural dialogue, to value cultural diversity as a resource and to strengthen participants’ sense of European belonging by connecting local identities, traditions and the European dimension. Specific attention was given to the involvement of young people with fewer opportunities, with the aim of reducing barriers to participation and ensuring equal learning opportunities for all. Further objectives included raising participants’ awareness of environmental sustainability and the protection of Alpine natural heritage, promoting attitudes of active citizenship and social responsibility, and strengthening young people’s awareness of the role they can play within their local and European communities. Through non-formal education methods, experiential activities and structured reflection moments, the project aimed to create a safe and inclusive space in which young people could learn from one another, share experiences and develop a more open and conscious vision of their future.
