The “Road to Election” project was developed with the aim of strengthening young people’s democratic participation and promoting gender equality in political and decision-making processes. Building on the principle established by the European Union that equality between women and men is a fundamental value of European democracy, the project sought to help reduce the political representation gap and encourage greater participation by women and young people in public life. The project’s main objectives were to: 1. promote active citizenship among young people from a gender-sensitive perspective; 2. raise awareness of the importance of balanced representation of women and men in politics and institutions; 3. provide participants with practical tools for inclusive political communication, public speaking, and the development of social and electoral campaigns; 4. strengthen young people’s leadership, empowerment, and civic participation skills; 5. foster the exchange of good practices among European organisations working in youth work, civic education, and gender equality. The project also aimed to develop skills that would enable participants to address social exclusion, disinformation, and gender stereotypes that remain prevalent in political and media contexts. Through activities based on non-formal education, participants had the opportunity to reflect critically on leadership models, the construction of public narratives, and different forms of democratic participation. The initiative formed part of a broader framework promoting European values, including democracy, inclusion, respect for fundamental rights, and active citizen participation. In particular, the project helped promote gender mainstreaming as an essential approach to ensuring equal opportunities and more equitable representation in decision-making processes. By involving young people from different European countries and working with partner organisations active in the field of youth work, the project promoted intercultural dialogue, European cooperation, and the development of new strategies to strengthen the democratic participation of younger generations.
