The EmigrArte project aims to address the challenges faced by young migrants and second-generation youth in Europe by creating safe spaces for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. These young people often face difficulties such as discrimination, social exclusion, and linguistic and cultural barriers. The project seeks to offer structured interventions to not only support young migrants but also educate local communities on the values of inclusion and diversity. At a time when immigration and integration are central issues in Europe, the project aspires to build a more cohesive, inclusive society that values cultural diversity as a source of enrichment. From the perspective of youth work practice, the EmigrArte project aims to achieve several specific objectives. Firstly, it seeks to promote social inclusion and active participation by fostering open and constructive dialogue that allows participants to understand and overcome prejudice and discrimination. This will be achieved through non-formal education methods such as intercultural workshops, creative labs, role-playing games, and group activities that engage young people in experiential and participatory learning. A primary objective is to enhance intercultural understanding among young people from different backgrounds by creating an exchange environment where cultural differences are viewed not as obstacles, but as opportunities for mutual enrichment. To achieve this, events like an intercultural festival will be organized, where participants prepare traditional dishes from their home countries and present cultural elements through performances, music, and storytelling. These moments will not only strengthen bonds among participants but also help reduce social tensions between local communities and migrants. Additionally, the project aims to empower young people by helping them develop transversal and personal skills such as leadership, problem-solving, project management, and the ability to work in multicultural teams. Throughout the project, young people will be actively involved in the planning and implementation of activities, allowing them to acquire time management and organizational skills that can be applied in future educational or professional contexts. This participatory approach is central to the project, as it enables young people to feel ownership and responsibility in addressing issues related to migration. Another important goal is to reduce linguistic and cultural barriers by promoting intercultural communication through group activities and workshops. Language workshops and team-building activities will be crucial in overcoming communication challenges and creating an inclusive environment where all participants feel heard and respected. This ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural context is a key skill that participants will develop and apply in various future contexts. From a youth work perspective, the project also seeks to raise awareness within local communities about inclusion and diversity through awareness campaigns, community events, and dissemination activities. The young participants will be involved in organizing such events, such as creating short documentaries on their experiences as migrants or children of migrants, which will then be presented in local communities and shared on social media. This process is essential to fostering greater understanding and acceptance within host communities, helping to break down prejudice and discrimination. Finally, EmigrArte aims to build long-lasting support networks between young people and local communities that will continue promoting values of inclusion and solidarity after the project ends. The relationships forged between participants from different European countries (Italy, France, Belgium, and Greece) will be key to developing a network of young ambassadors for inclusion in their respective communities. This network will be supported by digital platforms and social media, allowing young people to continue collaborating and sharing future opportunities and experiences. In summary, EmigrArte aims to achieve a dual goal: providing young migrants and locals with the tools to address integration challenges and promoting education on diversity and tolerance through youth work. Through the implementation of this project, we expect to see a lasting impact not only on the participants but also on the local communities and organizations involved, fostering intercultural dialogue and greater social cohesion at the European level.
