Objectives

The project “Territori Resilienti / Resilient Territories” was created with the aim of strengthening young people’s ability to understand and address challenges related to climate change, biodiversity protection and the sustainable management of natural resources. The starting point of the project was the need to make these topics more concrete and closer to participants’ daily lives, moving beyond a purely theoretical approach to environmental education. Through the youth exchange carried out in Sant’Antioco, Sardinia, we aimed to offer participants a non-formal, practical and intercultural learning experience, where they could directly observe a coastal and island territory, exchange with young people from other European countries and reflect on environmental challenges shared by different local contexts. The main objectives of the project were: to increase young people’s environmental awareness, providing tools to recognise the signs of climate change and understand the value of biodiversity; to promote territorial resilience through practical activities, workshops and moments of territorial observation; to encourage more sustainable and responsible behaviours in daily life; to foster intercultural dialogue and the exchange of good practices among young people coming from rural, coastal, island and peripheral areas; and to create an international network of young people and organisations interested in continuing to cooperate on sustainability, youth participation and environmental protection. The project also aimed to value the role of young people as agents of change in their own communities. For this reason, the activities were designed to develop not only environmental knowledge, but also transversal competences such as teamwork, critical thinking, intercultural communication, spirit of initiative and the ability to transform ideas and reflections into concrete actions. Another important objective was to strengthen the connection between young people and territory, showing how solutions for sustainability can emerge from the encounter between local knowledge, traditional practices, direct observation of the environment and innovative approaches. In this sense, Sant’Antioco and the Sulcis Iglesiente area represented a particularly meaningful context to reflect on environmental vulnerabilities, local resources and the possibility of building more resilient communities. Throughout all its phases, the project aimed to make participants more aware, active and able to promote, in their own contexts of origin, initiatives and behaviours oriented towards environmental sustainability, civic participation and cooperation at European level.
