Volunpeer is an international project aimed at promoting the concept of participatory democracy at the local, national, and European levels among young people and the communities involved. The overall objective of the project was to strengthen the role of youth workers as facilitators of democratic participation, providing them with concrete tools to support young people in understanding and implementing active citizenship and institutional engagement. To achieve this goal, the project pursued four specific objectives. The first objective was the training of 18 youth workers from six European countries (Italy, Estonia, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, and Kosovo) and the exchange of practices among partner organizations. Through international mobility and non-formal education activities, participants acquired skills and methodologies useful for supporting young people in understanding democratic processes, active citizenship, and participation opportunities at the local, national, and European levels. The second objective was to promote and disseminate the concept of participatory democracy internationally as a tool for positively influencing public decisions and contributing to improving the quality of life in local communities. This objective was achieved through the creation and dissemination of an interactive presentation containing experiences, testimonials, and best practices of democratic participation, and through the production of an awareness-raising video dedicated to youth involvement in civic and political life. The third objective was the direct involvement of adolescents and young adults in local democratic participation activities. After the mobility concluded, participants designed and implemented activities in their respective communities, engaging young people interested in discussing active citizenship, dialogue with institutions, and participation in local decision-making processes. The fourth objective was the creation of an international digital network dedicated to sharing opportunities for democratic participation. The network was developed by involving institutions, associations, and youth workers interested in promoting active citizenship.
