The project "Beyond Limits: from Sicily to Bruxelles" is driven by the desire to provide a concrete opportunity for personal growth and social inclusion to young people with fewer opportunities, especially those who have faced challenges related to the juvenile justice system. These young people often struggle with economic, social, and cultural barriers that limit their future prospects and sense of belonging to a broader community. Through a journey to Brussels, the capital of the European Union, the project aims to break down these obstacles and demonstrate that every young person, regardless of their past, has the right to access learning and mobility opportunities. As youth workers, our role goes beyond simply accompanying participants on a trip. We aim to guide them through a process of transformation, helping them discover new ways of seeing themselves and the world around them. We will work to strengthen their confidence, autonomy, and ability to engage in an international environment. Meetings with European institutions, intercultural activities, and moments of individual and collective reflection will be key tools to unlock their potential and encourage active citizenship. Project objectives: Personal empowerment: helping participants build self-confidence, improve their communication skills, and recognize their value in society. Social inclusion: promoting the idea that the past does not define the future and that access to European educational opportunities should be fair and inclusive. Awareness of European values: through visits to the European Parliament and educational activities, participants will deepen their understanding of democracy, social justice, solidarity, and equality. Development of intercultural competencies: experiencing life in a multilingual and multicultural city like Brussels will allow young people to develop an open mindset, learn to engage with diverse backgrounds, and overcome stereotypes and prejudices. Gender equality and mutual respect: the project promotes gender equality as a fundamental value, encouraging open discussions on the different experiences of men and women in society and the challenges of inclusion. Erasmus+ Ambassadors: upon returning, participants will be encouraged to share their experience with other young people in their communities, becoming positive role models and demonstrating that Europe is an open space of opportunity for all. The project is based on non-formal education methodologies, with continuous support from experienced youth workers who will facilitate the learning process through reflective moments, role-playing, simulations, and collaborative activities. Each participant will receive personalized support tailored to their needs and potential. Ultimately, this project is not just a trip, it is a transformative experience. It is an opportunity for young people to rethink their role in society, feel part of a larger community, and acquire the tools to build a better future for themselves and others.
