We want to carry out this project because the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of young people is very important, yet it is often overlooked in schools. The pressures of academic performance, social expectations (from teachers, parents, peers), and the excessive use of digital devices contribute to increasing levels of stress and anxiety among young people. Many students struggle to manage their emotions, communicate effectively, and establish meaningful relationships, which can result in feelings of isolation, conflicts with peers, and even cases of bullying. Schools – the place where youngsters spend a big part of their everyday life - play a crucial role in fostering student wellbeing, yet many lack appropriate resources and strategies to provide adequate support. We want to address the stereotypes that surround mental health and emotional wellbeing and focus on the importance of inclusivity, belonging, and strong community support systems. During group activities we want to learn and later share with our schools administration and other students not only theoretical knowledge and understanding of this topic, but also practical strategies, such as stress management techniques, conflict resolution, and digital wellbeing; thus we will provide our peers with concrete tools that can be applied in their daily lives. Physical health and the role of movements will also be integrated into our program, emphasizing the role of an active lifestyle in maintaining energy levels and concentration in school settings. The aim of this project is 1) to provide young people of our age (about 16-19 y/o) with knowledge and skills that are necessary to raise the level of their personal social, emotional and physical wellbeing and build emotionally healthier environment in our schools; 2) to raise the awareness about this issue among our school administration in order to make concrete long-lasting improvements. By coming together in two different countries we want to see the current situation in two different regions of Europe with two different historical and social backgrounds. Learn about each others' strengths and weaknesses in relation to the wellbeing in schools and inspire each other. By looking at the same problems from two different perspectives, basing on trainings organized by us, under the guidance of our facilitators, leaders and accompanying persons, and in cooperation experts invited by each partner, we want to develop a concrete action plan and suggestions to our school administrations on how to improve the school environment to make it more inclusive and supportive to different needs. In this project we wan to pay special attention to young people with special needs – both those who face learning difficulties and physical limitations, and those who come from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. We also believe that it is essential for these young people to participate in mobility activities, as their experiences and opinions will help to develop an effective action plan for schools to ensure the emotional and social well-being of all students. We want to set the following objectives for this project: 1) Build awareness and understanding of young people and school administrations about the importance of social, emotional and physical wellbeing at schools, 2) Develop concrete skills and knowledge (such as self-awareness, self-regulation, stress management, conflict resolution, digital well-being, fitness in school settings, etc.), 3) Create impact and sustain change by inspiring peers and school administration and by developing concrete initiatives and procedures for maintaining long-term progress after the project. We have already successfully implemented several projects and youth initiatives at a local level and we wanted to widen the perspective of our youth groups' activities by going international. When we first had the idea to write a project on raising the wellbeing in our school, we knew that we want to gain some knowledge from another European country that may have different experience and viewpoint in this matter. Therefore, we formed this partnership of Latvian and Portuguese youth groups who share the same values, but are located in regions with different historical, geographical and social background, which will help us to get a completely fresh inspiration. In spite of different background, we share the ambition to take part in the decision-making process, especially when it comes to our nearest environment and community - our schools. We want to draw the attention of our school administration that there are still many simple, but efficient steps that can be taken to foster the well-being of students. In general, the administration of our schools supports the idea of this project, therefore we expect that they will be open-minded when we come to them with a new action plan based on concrete activities that can be done.
