By implementing the project “Think, Speak, Inspire!”, our main objective was to strengthen the ability of young people in Talsi Municipality to actively participate in democratic and societal processes by developing their public speaking, critical thinking, argumentation, and opinion-expression skills. The project was created as a response to the observation that many young people experience insecurity in public situations and often refrain from expressing their views, especially when interacting with authority figures or decision-makers. One of the primary goals of the project was to reduce social anxiety and strengthen the self-confidence of young people by creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where they could learn, make mistakes, and grow. Using non-formal education methods, we wanted to ensure that young people not only gained theoretical knowledge but also practically developed the skills to speak before an audience, argue their positions, and engage in discussions. A significant objective of the project was to promote quality dialogue between young people and decision-makers. We aimed to create an environment where youth could informally and safely communicate with local government representatives, ask questions, voice their ideas, and discuss issues relevant to them. This objective was directly aligned with the EU Youth Goal “Space and Participation for All”, fostering youth participation and involvement in democratic processes. Within the project, special attention was also paid to the development of critical thinking and constructive dialogue. We wanted young people to be able to evaluate information, build reasoned arguments, and respectfully defend their opinions. Thus, the project contributed to the implementation of the EU Youth Goal “Information & Constructive Dialogue”. Another important goal was to foster cooperation between different schools, student councils, and youth organizations in Talsi Municipality, particularly through the youth organization network TAS.ES. The project created opportunities for young people from diverse backgrounds to meet, share experiences, and form new connections, thereby promoting the EU Youth Goal “Inclusive Societies”. Great attention was also given to the emotional well-being of young people. Project activities helped participants recognize and manage stress in public speaking situations, fostering greater self-awareness and emotional resilience. This aligned with the EU Youth Goal “Mental Health & Wellbeing”. Simultaneously, the project promoted several Erasmus+ horizontal priorities. It strengthened the priority of “Participation and Active Citizenship” by involving young people in the planning and implementation of the project, as well as by ensuring dialogue with decision-makers. The project fostered the priority of “Inclusion and Diversity” by engaging youth from various schools and regional areas. Digital tools, such as Instagram and Padlet, were used for communication, information exchange, and summarizing project results, thereby strengthening the priority of “Digital Transformation”. Furthermore, the use of digital materials helped reduce the volume of printed resources and promoted more environmentally friendly project implementation, resonating with the priority of “Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change”. Overall, the project aimed to create a long-term impact by developing young people who are able to confidently express their opinions, think critically, cooperate with others, and actively participate in the development of their community and society.
