Objectives

The project "Samen Sterk: Building Inclusive Communities" aims to bring together young people from eight different countries (the Netherlands, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Georgia, Poland, Ukraine, and Bosnia and Herzegovina) to learn about inclusive community building and related topics such as human rights, social justice, and equality. This project was developed in response to increasing inequalities and polarization, not only in the Netherlands but also in many EU countries and neighboring countries. Through intercultural dialogue and collaboration, we aim to help young people break down prejudices and stereotypes, focusing on promoting inclusive and resilient communities. Young people will learn from each other through workshops, training sessions, and group activities, seeking out differences while also discovering commonalities. In doing so, they will also develop the skills necessary to actively contribute to social change. The project focuses on developing intercultural competencies, breaking down prejudices, demonstrating leadership, and fostering collaboration—all essential skills for contributing to inclusive communities. In addition to discussing the importance of human rights and equality, participants will also reflect on how to combat (online) hate speech, intolerance, and discrimination. These broad approaches allow the young people to discover for themselves how they can contribute to an inclusive community and make a local impact against polarization. Furthermore, young people—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—will meet in a safe environment where they can share their personal experiences, learn from each other’s perspectives, and gain tools to organize local initiatives in their own communities. By collaborating with experienced organizations and visiting best practices, such as a visit to the Netherlands' Human Rights College and discussions with international human rights defenders through Shelter City, they will gain insights into how inclusive communities can be strengthened at various levels. A key outcome of the project will be the development of local activities by the participants themselves and the creation of an online platform where young people can stay connected after the project, exchange ideas, and set up new initiatives together. This ensures that the impact of the project and the intercultural development will have a long-term effect. Project objectives: - Promote dialogue and collaboration among young people from 8 countries. - Break down prejudices and stereotypes, strengthening intercultural competencies. - Raise awareness about human rights, equality, and social justice. - Empower young people to combat (online) hate speech, intolerance, and discrimination. - Provide skills and knowledge for building inclusive communities. - Visit organizations and best practices for inspiration. - Develop an online platform for long-term collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
