In our work with young people, we always try to connect with their world. In the neighborhood where they live, many different cultures come together, which is valuable, but young people also face difficult situations such as poverty, inequality, and discrimination. Through the exchange, we wanted to support the young people and help them discover their talents as well as further their personal, social, and emotional development. We wanted to give the young people a safe opportunity to look beyond their own environment and gain new experiences. We did this through an exchange between young people from Amsterdam and young people from a similar neighborhood in Lisbon. In this way, they recognize similarities and differences between the neighborhoods and cultures, learn to communicate better, gain more understanding of society, learn to work together, and feel more connected to other European countries. Through the exchange, they also saw how many opportunities are open to them in a united and free Europe.
