We aimed to organize a seminar to foster connections between different European careleaver networks. The objective was to look closely at the foundations of the organizations and identify effective components, strengthen each other by sharing best practices, exchange experiences in all their activities, and identify areas where additional support was needed. This initiative inspired new ideas, facilitated learning, and prevented reinventing the wheel. Together, we investigated the future possibilities for working together. All these careleaver networks supported young people in youth care who were transitioning out of care. To support careleavers, it was important to create strong networks and give them access to education, jobs, and housing. Even more importantly, it was essential to provide encouragement and a strong social network to back them up. The careleaver networks consisted mainly of youth workers with lived experience. Normally, a careleaver network is invited as a guest to conferences to provide information about careleavers to a broader audience or to bring the perspective of young people to those events. However, they rarely received support themselves to develop their own networks or improve the quality of their work. With this seminar, we invested in the careleaver networks themselves, working towards sustainable networks in each country. The seminar provided time and space to focus on their own challenges. From careleaver networks to careleaver networks, participants found strength in each other through a participatory approach and worked together to thrive. Through our project, we brought everyone together and provided a platform to collectively discuss successes and challenges. We also invested in each other's daily work and explored the best way forward. We examined how we could support one another in the coming years. The objectives of our project were: -To identify the effective components of the foundation of a careleaver network. -To identify the effective components of the youth work activities of careleaver networks. -To exchange experiences and share best practices. -To identify areas where additional support was needed. -To enhance the competences, skills, and personal growth of youth workers. -To offer young youth workers a unique opportunity to broaden their horizons by travelling to other countries and meeting colleagues from abroad. -To identify opportunities for further collaboration. -To create a final product (a poster with the results) that could be shared across Europe so that other countries and networks could also benefit from the insights gained.
