Objectives

The goals for organizing iMEP 2025 were: 1. Organize a successful international conference for MEP participants from across Europe. 2. Strengthen and enhance youth participation. Young people want to make their voices heard and participate in discussions on issues that affect them. To do this, they need knowledge and skills: understanding how decisions are made, where important decisions are made, how to reach decisions together, and how to effectively advocate for the interests of their group. Furthermore, the functioning of the European Union is relatively unknown among young people. The EU is crucial to the way we live. Yet, young people know little about how decisions are made at the European level. iMEP is changing this. 3. Offer young people a valuable informal learning experience. During the conference, young people learn how to influence each other, how to formulate positions, and many other skills that teach them how to participate. The MEP helps young people become aware of their role in a democratic society and empowered and willing to take on their own role within it. The MEP is a project for and by young people and offers strong informal training to help them become increasingly active within the project. More experienced young people share their knowledge with other participants. In this way, the MEP structure also encourages young people to become increasingly active in social projects like this one. 4. Intercultural dialogue and exchange: Young people from several European countries meet in the familiar environment of the Model European Parliament. They learn from each other, gain travel experience in groups, stay with a host family, and get to know the Netherlands. 5. Establish a strong dialogue between young people and policymakers, particularly around the themes of peace, justice, and democracy. 6. Contribute to the MEP network by acting as a host country and actively sharing knowledge and expertise that strengthens the MEP network.
