Objectives

The National Vocational College Debate aims to provide vocational students, who are currently underrepresented in the societal debate, with the skills and platform to have their voices heard and to increase their political and societal engagement. Students learn to think more critically, articulate their opinions more clearly, and better understand different perspectives. By connecting students with their representatives, students are better equipped to navigate the societal debate. This is not only crucial for democracy, but also a wish from the vocational students themselves. Often, we hear from students during our activities that they feel like politics is "not for them." Direct contact with politicians is therefore vital for this group. It increases their confidence in politics and motivates them to become more politically involved. This highlights the importance of bridging the gap between politics and vocational education.
