The project aims to foster knowledge exchange of youth workers supporting young people in rural areas, equipping them with new tools and strategies to engage with their communities. Focus area is on rural entrepreneurship for youngsters, promoting sustainable work opportunities in areas of depopulation. Both partners hosting the activities got to know each other through the partnership building activity (PBA) “YouthBoost” in Prague and it became clear that we have much in common: Northern Norway and Greece both have a spread population in rural areas, long coastline and are highly affected by climate change. Those circumstances provide similar challenges such as depopulation of youth, climate resilience and lack of work opportunities. We wanted to broaden the project with two participating partners from Italy and Spain that are working on the same topics with long term experience. This project seeks to provide innovative solutions based on knowledge exchange of youth workers. With a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and climate action (SDG 13), the project will empower and strengthen the skills of professional youth workers working with young people in rural areas. Rural youngsters in both Northern Norway and rural Spain, Italy and Greece lack work opportunities, while the regions are highly affected by climate change. This project seeks to encounter all three dimensions of sustainable development through intercultural knowledge transfer: 1. Environmental sustainability: Climate resilience is needed and the project is creating a space for knowledge exchange on projects working on environmental issues in vulnerable regions. 2. Social sustainability: It is often the youngsters from high-economic backgrounds that get work opportunities. This project is working to change that, creating work opportunities in the environmental sector for rural youth. 3. Economic sustainability: The project is enabling youth workers to implement entrepreneurship for youngsters and thereby enhancing economic sustainability. 4. Knowledge transfer: The youth workers exchange is a possibility to learn from each other's projects and transfer the ideas to their own regions, bringing best-practices back to their respective communities.
