Objectives

The project aimed to enable greater participation of young people in democracy and social life and made them active contributors to strengthening democracy, through developing the capacities of youth workers and offering them enough models, practices and resources to effectively engage young people for better democratic participation and engagement, especially in the countries with hybrid democracy. Statistically, there is a trend of youth declining across Europe which came because of many reasons such as lack of trust in institutions and lack of information. The most influential figures in strengthening democracy with young people are the youth workers. These key frontlines in youth work need more information, capacities, and resources on how to make youth active citizens and active contributors/stakeholders to a stronger democracy (especially in a time when there were many threats to democracy, and when democracy was not a local matter but a global one). Young people play a key role in creating inclusive and resilient democracies, and this project aimed to share knowledge and strategies to support their engagement. The project addressed the need to empower youth workers to have better capacities, models, tools and practices to support youth to become key stakeholders in strengthening and safeguarding democracy, and to improve youth participation in political and social life, particularly in countries where resources and institutional support were limited. By collaborating with Norwegian institutions and stakeholders, where democratic practices were well- established, youth workers gained valuable tools and insights they adapted to their work with young people. Project objectives: 1. Providing youth workers from 10 partner countries with models, practices, networking and opportunities to learn from Norway's successful models, such as Arendalsuka, and also to learn and share with each other ways to build a stronger democracy and trust between citizens/young people and institutions, which therefore resulted in better youth engagement in political and social life. 2. Developing the capacities of youth workers through a week of capacity-building training in Albania on how to prepare project proposals which fostered youth participation and engagement in the democratic process, and to plan and develop concrete project proposals to be implemented in their local context, inspired by Norwegian models. 3. Enabling networking and collaboration between youth workers, organizations, and institutions involved in the study visit and training course and those they contacted in Norway (Arendal and Kristiansand). 4. Providing youth workers with resources on how to engage young people, including those from marginalized groups, by developing a manual with positive models, practices and methods from Norway and all participating countries. 5. Promoting European values such as inclusion, diversity, and collaboration for a vibrant and resilient democracy at local and global levels; the project inspired participants to promote these values in their communities and strengthened the democratic foundations of their countries
