Objectives

This will be the first international exchange project for our organization, addressed to young people aged 13-18. By implementing the project, we aim primarily to counteract the problems we have identified among young people and to develop key competences that will help young people in better functioning in society. Therefore, we want to implement this project based on the needs and problems that we have examined among young people - the target group. The survey research was conducted during the "Family and educational picnic" event in Stalowa Wola, organized by the "StrefaSpotkań" Association in cooperation with local entities (VII.2024). Using a survey questionnaire, individual and group interviews, the needs of the youth environment were examined, including: in the area of: skills and competences of young people (aged 13+), their interests, attitudes, motivations, barriers and knowledge about interculturalism (questionnaire attached). The analysis of survey research revealed the following problems (analysis of research in the appendix): -little activity of young people in social (local) life -lack of youth involvement in personal development (life in the virtual world) -lack of motivation to take action and participate in the cultural life of the city (region) -discouraging young people from developing professional competences (no prospects on the labor market) -low level of knowledge of foreign languages (language barrier) -lack of contacts with peers from abroad -low level of knowledge in the area of intercultural education -lack of creativity, interests and passion -very low attendance at extracurricular activities -negative change in social attitudes of young people after the pandemic. Additionally, we have noticed shortcomings resulting from the structure of school curricula, which do not take into account intercultural education, learning tolerance and fighting prejudice, which result in: - low level of intercultural competences of young people - duplicating unverified information and judgments - succumbing to stereotypes - aggressive behavior towards representatives of other cultures Based on the above needs, we formulated two main goals of the project i.e. 1. Promoting intercultural education among young people through international mobility 2. Improving key competences of young people (including language competences and cultural knowledge) In addition, we have identified specific goals, which are: 1. Increasing knowledge about cultural differences and their impact on behavior 2. Developing communication skills in intercultural situations and overcoming cultural barriers and differences 3. Shaping an attitude of openness and tolerance towards other cultures 4. Acquiring and deepening knowledge about acculturation - methods and strategies of entering a different cultural circle 5. Shaping an attitude of respect for yourself and other people 6. Strengthening European values and overcoming prejudices and stereotypes. The realisation of the above-mentioned project objectives from a youth work perspective is based on a practical and interactive approach that will allow young people to experience intercultural situations directly and to develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively in a diverse environment. Through youth exchanges, we will enable young people to establish direct contacts with peers from other countries, which will foster the development of intercultural communication skills and adaptation to new and diverse environments. In addition, participation in such exchanges fosters the development of qualities such as self-reliance, self-confidence, flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team. We believe that participation in an international youth exchange will allow participants to develop and/or improve their ability to communicate in a multicultural environment, often in a foreign language, and to learn about the culture, traditions and history of the destination country. The rationale for our organisation's participation in the programme is also the opportunity for youth workers to improve their professional competences and develop new skills. This can have an impact on both improving the quality of youth work and developing new organisational practices. In addition to this, we want to aim to establish contacts with foreign organisations that participate in the Erasmus+ programme. This activity will enable us to open up to new opportunities for social development, exchange experiences and transfer knowledge to our area. Furthermore, we assume that we will actively participate in the exchange of good practices and share experiences with other organisations. Our project is central to the objectives of our organisation. By promoting non-formal learning, especially among young people with fewer opportunities, we will raise their level of competence and ensure their active participation in society. The project will also allow us to improve the quality of our youth work.
