Objectives

By implementing the #SquidGame for Youth Critical Thinking Skills project, we aimed to address the growing challenge of negative online behaviour among young people, including cyberbullying, discrimination, hate speech, and toxic communication patterns, particularly within online gaming environments and digital platforms. The project brought together 38 participants from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, including students, youth workers, and active digital users aged 16+, creating a dynamic and realistic reflection of contemporary digital communities. The main aim of the project was to strengthen young people’s critical thinking skills and promote responsible and ethical behaviour in digital environments through an innovative, game-based learning methodology inspired by the Squid Game concept. By simulating a competitive and decision-based environment through role-playing activities, missions, teamwork, and structured reflection, participants were encouraged to critically analyse their behaviours, understand the consequences of their actions, and make informed and responsible decisions both online and offline. The project focused on developing key competences essential for active digital citizenship, including critical thinking, decision-making, digital responsibility, communication, empathy, conflict resolution, and media literacy. Through daily reflection sessions, peer learning, and facilitated discussions, participants were able to directly connect their learning experience within the simulation to real-life situations, especially those related to online interactions and gaming culture. The main objectives of the project were: - to explore the influence of online environments and gaming culture on young people’s attitudes and behaviours - to promote respectful, inclusive, and responsible communication in digital spaces - to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills in both online and offline contexts - to foster empathy, tolerance, and intercultural understanding through experiential learning - to strengthen young people’s sense of responsibility and accountability for their actions - to create safe and supportive peer-learning environments through digital tools (Discord Channel and WhatsApp communities) - to develop accessible and practical project outputs, including a Booklet (digital), articles and video materials The project contributed to key Erasmus+ priorities, particularly inclusion and diversity by promoting tolerance and reducing discriminatory behaviours, and digital transformation by addressing challenges related to online communication and responsible use of digital tools. Overall, #SQ project empowered young people to become active promoters of respectful communication, inclusion, and responsible digital citizenship within their communities.
