Objectives

Old 2 Gold – A Story Retold! was a two-step youth exchange project that brought together young people from Poland, North Macedonia, Portugal and Lithuania to explore sustainable fashion, upcycling and responsible consumption. Through a combination of practical workshops, digital creativity, intercultural learning and awareness-raising activities, the project aimed to help young people better understand the impact of the fashion industry and encourage them to make more sustainable choices in their everyday lives. The project addressed the growing problem of fast fashion and its impact on the environment and society. The fashion industry is one of the world's largest producers of waste and pollution, while at the same time encouraging overconsumption and short-term use of clothing. Many young people are active consumers of fashion but often have limited knowledge about where clothes come from, how they are produced, and what environmental consequences their purchasing habits may have. At the same time, many lack practical skills that would allow them to repair, redesign or reuse clothing instead of throwing it away. For this reason, the project focused on increasing awareness about sustainable fashion and providing participants with practical alternatives to fast fashion. Through non-formal education activities, participants explored topics such as textile waste, responsible consumption, recycling, upcycling and creative reuse. They learned how second-hand clothing can be transformed into attractive and useful products and how creativity can contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. An important aspect of the project was combining environmental education with digital creativity. Participants were encouraged not only to learn about sustainable fashion but also to become active promoters of these values within their communities. Through social media content, video production, public awareness events and creative campaign, they had the opportunity to share their messages with other young people and contribute to broader discussions about sustainable consumption. The project also aimed to strengthen participants' creativity, teamwork, communication and digital skills through promoting intercultural cooperation between young people from different countries. By working together during two mobilities and a homework phase between them, participants developed both practical and personal competences, and at the same time they build friendships and exchanged experiences. Project objectives were: • to engage a group of 32 young participants from 4 countries in a two-phase project focused on sustainable fashion, upcycling, and digital creativity and raise awareness about the impact of fast fashion thus promote eco-friendly clothing choices; • to broaden participants' knowledge of sustainable fashion by providing hands-on experience in upcycling second-hand clothing and teaching them how to repurpose materials creatively; • to equip young people with practical skills in clothing redesign by organizing workshops where participants will learn sewing, cutting, and styling techniques to create 32 unique upcycled outfits; • to give participants the opportunity to showcase their creativity by preparing a fashion mask in their national teams during the homework phase, which will collectively form a larger theme of sustainability; • to engage participants in a large-scale public event by organizing a fashion flash mob show as awareness event at the end of the second youth exchange in a city center, promoting sustainable fashion in an interactive way; • to develop participants’ digital and IT skills by involving them in the production of at least 5 YouTube tutorials on upcycling techniques, allowing them to share their knowledge and inspire others to adopt sustainable fashion habits; • to create a digital magazine featuring articles, personal stories, and illustrations on sustainable fashion, providing participants with the opportunity to express their thoughts, share best practices, and promote eco-friendly fashion alternatives; • to encourage active citizenship by allowing young people opportunity to run a social media campaign consisting of 15 inspiring posters with motivational messages encouraging young people to embrace upcycled fashion, raising awareness among a broader audience. Through these objectives, the project aimed to encourage long-term behavioral change and help participants become more conscious consumers, active citizens and ambassadors of sustainable fashion within their local communities.
