Objectives

For young people from Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Croatia, Italy, and Romania who became involved in preparing the project, the exchange was an excellent opportunity to establish connections with peers from other countries who shared similar interests, learn about different cultures, and, above all, participate in joint activities concerning the future of our planet and societies. Some of the participants (from Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania) had previously met in person and exchanged views during a youth exchange held in Lithuania in 2024. It was then that the idea emerged to organize inclusive ecological workshops using artistic resources. The project idea was based on creating a safe and inclusive space in which participants could work together for the benefit of the environment. Among the initiators were young people with disabilities who were actively engaged as volunteers supporting environmental protection and people at risk of social exclusion. While working on the project concept, the young people from Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine concluded that expanding the cooperation to include three additional youth groups from different cultural backgrounds would contribute to a better understanding of common issues and enrich the project with diverse perspectives. The young participants were actively involved in the Erasmus+ programme and remained in constant contact with peers from other countries. Groups from Italy, Croatia, and Romania were invited to join the project. The young people jointly defined the themes and framework of the project and sought support from partner organizations. Remaining in constant online contact, they developed the initial concept and programme of the exchange. Partner organizations engaged in environmental activities and work with young people with disabilities actively contributed to the project preparation. The most important topics of the project were: - ecology, nature protection, sustainable development, and the problem of environmental pollution; - accessibility of environmental volunteering for young people with disabilities; - the use of artistic means to draw attention to environmental issues; - activities supporting the natural environment in local communities; - promotion of a sustainable and healthy lifestyle; - promoting pro-environmental attitudes through social media. While preparing the project, the participants identified their needs as follows: - improving English language skills; - learning about other languages and cultures and developing intercultural competences; - increasing awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses; - carrying out environmental activities in an international team; - developing creativity and soft skills necessary in social and professional life; - learning about good practices in environmental activities; - increasing knowledge about environmental volunteering; - establishing contacts with peers from other countries who share similar interests; - increasing awareness of their own role in the local community. The main objective of the project was to enhance environmental competences and promote a sustainable lifestyle among young people through the implementation of inclusive ecological workshops using art. The specific objectives of the project included: - creating conditions for mutual understanding, breaking down barriers and stereotypes, and fostering cooperation among young people with shared interests; - developing creativity, activity, independence, and teamwork skills as competences useful in future professional careers; - developing environmental skills and awareness; - increasing interest in environmental volunteering; - deepening knowledge about the use of art in solving environmental problems; - promoting a healthy lifestyle; - increasing empathy towards people with disabilities; - creating conditions for the active participation of people with disabilities in environmental activities and international youth cooperation.
