Objectives

Planet Pulse was developed as a natural continuation of our earlier youth exchange “Eco-Trek” which took place back in 2023 in Gonio, Georgia. During that project, participants clearly expressed that the work should not end there. They were motivated, emotionally invested and eager to continue learning and acting for the environment. As youth workers, we felt a strong responsibility to respond to this momentum and create a space where ecological awareness could be deepened and transformed into practical action. This training course was therefore designed to give youth workers the knowledge, tools and confidence to address environmental issues more effectively in their day to day practice. Across Europe and beyond, young people are growing up in the middle of an ecological crisis marked by biodiversity loss, plastic pollution, climate change and unsustainable urban development. Although information exists it often does not reach young people in an accessible and engaging way. This training course aimed to bridge that gap by equipping youth workers with the necessary skills to guide young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, toward active environmental participation. The local context of Tbilisi illustrated the urgency: – PM2.5 air pollution levels frequently exceed WHO recommendations – approximately 40% of green areas have been lost in the past two decades – plastic waste continues to pollute rivers and forests Understanding these realities reinforced our motivation to develop a training course that not only raises awareness but also empowers youth workers to turn knowledge into meaningful community action. Our goal was to ensure that participants would return home equipped with practical tools they could immediately apply. To achieve this, the project included a post-mobility action plan tailored to each organisation, supporting youth workers in translating their learning into concrete initiatives with their local young people. Objectives of the training: -raise ecological awareness -strengthen public and youth awareness about environmental challenges and reduce the stigma or misinformation surrounding ecological issues. -recognize and analyze ecological challenges -support youth workers in identifying environmental problems in their communities and develop strategies to address them effectively. -promote ecofriendly infrastructure and urban planning -encourage participants to advocate for sustainable urban solutions and greener public spaces within their local realities. -strengthen community engagement -empower youth workers to design community-based ecological activities that involve and motivate local residents, especially young people. -build the capacities of youth workers -enhance youth workers competencies in environmental education so they can better support young people’s involvement in ecological initiatives. -disseminate tools and create long-term cooperation -develop and share practical tools, methods and best practices for ecological youth work, while strengthening international partnerships. Alignment with the Erasmus+ program The project directly contributed to Erasmus+ priorities by: – improving youth workers professional skills and supporting learning mobility – promoting lifelong learning through non-formal education – reinforcing international cooperation and exchange of good practices – revitalizing youth work by integrating environmental education in a meaningful and accessible way – ensuring inclusive opportunities for participants from diverse social and economic backgrounds.
