Objectives

As partner organizations, we recognize the difficulties young people have in expressing their emotions and, at the same time, the great need not to suppress them, to be seen and heard. Especially since the pandemic, we have seen that a simple conversation, even in the form of verbal coaching, is often not enough to reach a young person. While looking for other forms of understanding and working with emotions, we noticed that art and related coaching and educational methods have great potential not only for expressing emotions, but also for building bonds and relationships and recognising what is happening in the head, heart and body of a young person. Through the implementation of the ArtCoaching project, we want to develop the coaching and trainer skills of youth workers, following specific assumptions and approaches that, on the one hand, are consistent with our values as partner organizations, and on the other hand, have proven effective in our experience of working with youth, including, above all: -Solution Focused Approach. -Working with resources. -Emotional intelligence. -Nonviolent communication. -Artcoaching. We understand these approaches as follows: “The essence of the SOLUTION-FOCUSED APPROACH is to develop the client's motivation and change process by strengthening their effective actions leading towards the expected goals.” (Izabela Krasiejko, Solution Focused Approach in education). WORK WITH RESOURCES involves focusing on the resources, talents and strengths that a person already has, instead of on difficulties, weaknesses and shortcomings. We assume that a given person already has all the necessary resources, but may need support and space to discover them and use them appropriately. According to Daniel Goleman, EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE includes the ability to understand yourself and your own emotions, manage and control them, the ability to self-motivate, empathy and social skills. NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION (NVC), created by Marshall Rosenberg, is an approach to communication based on respect, empathy and openness. Emotions, needs and strategies play an important role in NVC. It involves expressing feelings and needs in a clear and empathetic way, while avoiding the use of aggression or manipulation. Instead, NVC encourages building understanding and resolving conflicts by listening empathetically, understanding the other person's needs, and finding solutions that serve all parties involved. We understand artcoaching according to the definition presented on the website https://babskietabu.pl/2015/06/sztuka-daj-moc-artecoaching/: "IN ARTCOACHING WORK, the use of classic coaching tools is enriched with techniques from art therapy - exercises and tasks based on creative activities. For example, in artecoaching, instead of talking about the goal, we can draw it, and instead of talking about the emotions we experience, we can play them on an instrument. Such exercises take us out of everyday patterns, from a safe environment called the comfort zone, and take us to less known but more developmental areas where the subconscious is activated. Art allows us to safely bring to light the content that is hidden deep in each of us, the talents that are difficult to notice in everyday life. Thanks to this, the change occurs faster and the client achieves the set goal in a more effective way.” Project goals: -Development of coaching and training skills of participants (including, among others, active listening, paraphrasing, asking questions, focusing on resources and solutions, managing the group process, designing and implementing workshops, working with feedback). -Development of emotional intelligence of participants, which will translate directly into working with young people's emotions (including, among others, recognizing and naming emotions, distinguishing the information that each emotion carries, adequately expressing and reacting to one's own and others' emotions, perceiving emotions as signals speaking about our needs). -Learning art coaching techniques and their application in working with young people (e.g. drawing, collage, singing, theatre, intuitive dance, creative writing, drama).
