Objectives

The implementation of this project is based on the extensive experience of the Bullerbyn Foundation in working with young people, particularly those with personal challenges, for whom standard educational and developmental solutions are often insufficient. Our activities focus on supporting youth in developing their autonomy, agency and social competencies. For over 12 years, we have been running the Bullerbyn Free Democratic School, which brings together young people fulfilling their school obligations outside the formal education system. This includes students with special educational needs, those on the autism spectrum, with ADHD and with otherdevelopmental challenges, or at risk of social exclusion. We recognize that when young people lack appropriate opportunities for growth and practical experiences, they often face diminished agency, limited future prospects, and greater challenges in social and professional integration. We want to implement the project "On the Cultural Trail: Youth Without Barriers in Europe" to create a comprehensive developmental opportunity for our student — ensuring equal opportunities for transitioning into adulthood on the same terms as her peers, regardless of disabilities or health-related limitations. This project aims to enable her to embark on a European journey alongside her companions, gaining access to international experiences, developing essential life skills, and deepening her knowledge in the field of culture and the arts. Through this experience, she will be able to acquire new knowledge, gain hands-on exposure, and find inspiration from cultural achievements in different countries. Traveling will significantly enhance her skills and competencies, including independence, self-confidence, a sense of control and agency, and will give her a better awareness of her strengths and abilities. The participant will experience first-hand the opportunities that the European Union offers in relation to her interests and future aspirations. Interaction with young people from other countries during the journey will further develop her interpersonal, cultural, and language skills. Additionally, traveling by train will reinforce her pro-ecological mindset and awareness of sustainable travel. Project Objectives -Overcoming barriers that prevent a young person with fewer opportunities from undertaking a DiscoverEU journey in autumn 2025, ensuring comprehensive organizational and financial support for her to travel safely. -Providing conditions for the participant to acquire and deepen her knowledge of European cultural heritage, tailored to her personal interests. -Facilitating an educational and developmental travel experience across Europe by visiting key cultural sites, landmarks, and exploring the work of outstanding European artists and innovators. This will contribute to the further development of her interests and career aspirations in the field of art history. -Creating space for creative expression inspired by the journey, enabling the participant’s artistic and personal growth, aligned with her passion for art. -Strengthening life competencies through the experience of independent travel, which will be confirmed through her self-assessment in the evaluation process at the end of the project. -Encouraging intercultural interactions by providing opportunities for the participant to engage with peers from different countries, leading to noticeable improvements in her language and intercultural skills. -Promoting a pro-ecological attitude by inspiring the participant to travel sustainably and share her experience with others, particularly during project dissemination activities. The implementation of this Erasmus+ DiscoverEU Inclusion project represents another step toward building an inclusive society in which every young person, regardless of their individual limitations, has access to education, personal development, and full participation in cultural life. This project directly addresses the real needs of young people while aligning with the core mission of our foundation—supporting the holistic development of youth in an environment based on mutual respect, freedom, and democracy.
