Objectives

“EducAI” was the promoting association of the project mIrA In Action, an organisation dedicated to developing digital competences and promoting artificial intelligence (AI) among young people. The project took place in Mira, Coimbra (Portugal), from 11 to 19 November 2025, and involved 36 young participants from six consortium countries: Portugal, Lithuania, Spain, Türkiye, Slovakia, and Bulgaria. This international youth exchange sought to create a collaborative environment in which participants could explore and understand the implications of AI for the future of work, while developing practical and reflective competences to address emerging technological challenges. The choice of partner countries reflected cultural diversity and differing realities regarding access to technology and digital education, creating a unique opportunity to foster dialogue and intercultural learning on a crucial and global topic such as artificial intelligence. The project addressed the lack of knowledge and training among young people regarding artificial intelligence and their perception of technology as distant and abstract. Despite the exponential growth of AI across multiple sectors, many European young people felt unprepared for the labour market, with only 27% reporting confidence in their digital skills. Furthermore, research indicated that 75% of young people wished to learn more about AI and its practical applications but often lacked access to educational programmes offering such training. This knowledge gap and the disconnect between theory and practice limited young people’s engagement with AI and constrained their personal and professional development potential. mIrA In Action aimed to increase AI digital literacy among young people from different European countries, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of the future of work. Over nine days, participants explored fundamental AI concepts, reflected on their ethical and social implications, and developed practical competences through workshops, debates, and collaborative activities. Through a hands-on approach, young people created prototypes and digital solutions, such as chatbots and other applications, with the support of mentors and institutional partners. The project also promoted the exchange of experiences and perspectives, enabling participants to explore their concerns, fears, and expectations regarding AI while strengthening communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. The association “EducAI”, promoter of mIrA In Action, was based in Mira, a town in the Coimbra region of Portugal, with a strong commitment to advancing digital and technological education. Although more rural in character, the locality has been expanding in the fields of innovation and technological development, with a focus on preparing younger generations for the challenges of the digital society. The town also stands out for its capacity to host international projects, building bridges between academia, technology companies, and the local community, and creating an ideal environment for intercultural exchange and the development of transversal competences in AI. The main objective of mIrA In Action was to strengthen AI digital literacy among participating young people by providing them with a solid understanding of emerging technologies and their implications for the future of work. In addition, the project aimed to create a safe space for dialogue and reflection on fears and concerns related to AI, encouraging young people to critically analyse its impact on their lives and on society. Ultimately, the project sought to prepare young people for the future by equipping them with practical tools and knowledge to use AI in an ethical and innovative way, supporting their personal and professional development. The objectives of mIrA In Action were aligned with the priorities of the National Agency and the Erasmus+ Programme, promoting social inclusion, digital education, and youth preparedness for the future of work. By building competences in artificial intelligence and digital skills, the project contributed to the development of European citizens better prepared for the challenges of the digital era. By addressing ethical and social issues related to AI, such as privacy and algorithmic bias, the project also promoted fundamental European Union values, including equality and respect for human rights. In this way, mIrA In Action was fully in line with Erasmus+ objectives, contributing to quality, inclusive, and accessible education for all young people, regardless of their background or socioeconomic context.
