The overall aim of the Art4Health Portugal Edition project is to promote the mental well-being of young people through mental health education and the development of practical tools to prevent and manage symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, fostering mutual support networks and valuing cultural exchange as an empowerment strategy. The World Health Organization (WHO) (2021/2022), tells us that young people around the world experience various situations that jeopardize their mental well-being. Both in Europe and around the world, young people are facing major challenges, increasing symptoms of anxiety, depression and feelings of isolation. Globally, increasing social pressures, economic insecurity and changes in the digital environment are having a negative impact on young people's mental well-being. We have been talking about this issue since the formation of our group, “ Comunidade XXI ”, and we understand that it is a reality that affects us all in different ways. We all face many confusing and stressful issues typical of adolescence and youth. Some of us are finishing high school and live in uncertainty about our academic future, others are at university, overwhelmed by academic responsibility and the demanding pace of work. Others are afraid of the future, because the world has never been through such environmentally adverse situations as it is now, others are afraid of a new pandemic that could turn the world upside down again. The future has never been as uncertain for us as it is now. We concluded that we all experience stress and anxiety on a daily basis, and we consider it extremely important to look for solutions that work effectively and influence young people across Europe to deal with these symptoms. Some members of the XXI Community had the opportunity to participate in the “Partnership Building Activity With young People” in Finland, and there, in contact with young people from different parts of Europe, we concluded that symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression are widespread among young people and that it is not just a Portuguese issue. For this reason, we want to have the opportunity to work on this topic in a transnational way, to give participants the chance to understand that the problems they detect in their home countries are present throughout Europe, and that it therefore makes sense to join forces and look for solutions together. We aim to cultivate greater understanding of mental wellbeing issues by providing an environment conducive to dialogue and the sharing of personal experiences. Topics such as anxiety, depression and stress will be discussed in a respectful manner, with an emphasis on promoting resilience and effective coping strategies. By fostering meaningful interactions and encouraging empathy among participants, we will cultivate a sense of community and make individuals feel accepted and valued. Through mutual support and encouragement, we strive to create a space where everyone feels empowered to seek help and offer assistance. We are also convinced that by leveraging peer education, we will achieve more effective results. It is planned that the results of this project will be shared by several young people, achieving the sharing of its message in an effective way, because no one understands young people as well as young people. As part of our Erasmus+ youth exchange project, we will organize activities that demonstrate the therapeutic potential of art for mental well-being, exploring, through workshops, the healing and preventive power of art when it comes to symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress. By participating in various creative activities, such as drawing, sculpture, photography, film, painting and music, participants will have the opportunity to experience first-hand how these mediums can positively influence their emotional and mental well-being. We aim to trigger feelings of hope and optimism, demonstrating the transformative potential of creative expression and fostering a deeper appreciation of the therapeutic benefits of art. Specific Objectives: SO 1) to strengthen education on mental health and emotional management, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and good practice among young people. SO 2) to develop an environment of mutual support among young people through group dynamics, sharing experiences and practical strategies to strengthen resilience and reduce isolation. SO 3) facilitate the exploration of the therapeutic potential of artistic activities, such as music, painting and theater, by promoting spaces dedicated to mental well-being. SO 4) strengthen the sense of belonging and empathy among young people by promoting activities that encourage understanding and respect in an intercultural context. SO 5) expand the impact of artistic mental wellbeing strategies and tools across Europe, going beyond the partner countries.
