We are excited to implement this project, believing that a Youth Exchange centered on sustainability, outdoor sports, environmental conservation, and gastronomy in Gerês National Park will bring lasting benefits. As a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, Gerês is ecologically significant, and we must continue to advance conservation efforts while raising awareness about its diverse ecosystems. The park's popularity, especially in summer, puts pressure on its delicate environments, highlighting the need for responsible tourism practices that minimize ecological impact. We understand that educating young people about environmental conservation is crucial for shaping a mindful future generation. Local communities play a vital role in preserving biodiversity and are the stewards of the land. We recognize the importance of supporting these communities to balance conservation with sustainable livelihoods. Our project aims to deepen participants' understanding of the park’s rich biodiversity and inspire them to take responsibility for preserving these ecosystems. To achieve our objectives, we will introduce participants to eco-friendly outdoor activities that align with sustainable tourism principles. We believe educating young people about responsible outdoor practices is essential for reducing their ecological footprint. Furthermore, by showcasing local gastronomy, we aim to connect sustainable agriculture with culinary traditions, encouraging participants to adopt sustainable practices in their lives. The Youth Exchange will also provide a valuable cultural exchange opportunity, allowing young people from different backgrounds to share perspectives on environmental issues and solutions. Additionally, we aim to empower participants to become advocates for environmental conservation and sustainable tourism within their communities. In summary, our project objectives include promoting eco-friendly outdoor activities, enhancing environmental awareness, encouraging sustainable tourism practices, supporting local gastronomy, fostering cultural exchange, and developing leadership skills among participants. We also seek to promote year-round appreciation of the park, highlighting its attractions across seasons, and align our efforts with the Erasmus+ Programme and its priorities regarding youth empowerment and sustainable development. Through these goals, we are committed to creating a meaningful impact on both participants and their communities.
