More than ever, the world needs us to help change the urgent situation we are facing. It’s not enough to only think about sustainable ideas; we must start testing and implementing them! According to IPCC reports (UN), we have 10 years to reverse global warming and meet the 2015 Paris Agreement, which requires a radical transformation through the adoption of new sustainable ideas. "Climate change is the most urgent issue of our time. We are living in a decisive moment for humanity. From changes in climate patterns that threaten food production to rising sea levels increasing the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are unprecedented. Without drastic and urgent action, it will become increasingly difficult for humans to adapt to the devastating effects of global warming." The project - Empowering Change: Sustainability for Youth Organizations - aims to encourage youth workers to adopt more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in their NGOs, promote non-formal education as a learning tool, raise awareness about the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), and integrate practical sustainability philosophy into their everyday NGO activities. It focuses on transforming waste into resources, creating circular projects with international partners, promoting local businesses, supporting the circular economy, protecting and valuing the environment, fostering equality, and strengthening youth workers' ability to develop sustainable projects. It also aims to raise awareness about reforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and transforming waste into resources. This project also aims to empower youth workers to become agents of change for sustainability, both within their organizations and communities. By equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to integrate sustainable practices into their daily operations, we seek to promote long-term behavioral and systemic change. The project’s specific objectives from a youth work perspective are as follows: Main Objectives of the Project: 1. Develop Sustainability Competencies for Youth Workers -Empower youth workers to understand the principles of sustainability and its relevance in youth work. -Provide practical tools to assess and reduce the environmental footprint of their organizations. -Develop competencies to create and implement action plans that promote sustainable practices within their organizations. 2. Empower Youth to Act for Sustainability -Train youth workers to inspire and engage young people in environmental and social sustainability projects. -Support the development of educational activities and campaigns promoting sustainable lifestyles among youth. -Turn organizations into models of sustainability, encouraging young people to lead similar initiatives in their communities. 3. Promote Collaboration and Sharing of Best Practices -Create opportunities for youth workers to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices related to sustainability in youth work. -Foster international collaboration among organizations to develop innovative sustainability strategies. -Build a network of youth workers committed to sustainability, expanding the impact on communities. 4. Link Youth Work to Global Sustainability Goals -Align youth work practices with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). -Highlight the role of youth organizations in responding to global challenges, such as climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality. -Promote policy changes and new funding opportunities that prioritize sustainability in the youth work sector.
