Objectives

Fundamented on the 2019 Communication on “Stepping up EU Action to Protect and Restore the World’s Forests” as well as the “Sustaining our quality of life: Food security, water and nature” priority of the European Commission for 2024-2029 ,the EU places high importance on conserving and further improving the current health state of the European forests, classifying them as being “indispensable”, as they composedly cover 39% of the total area of Europe. Though this subject has grown in popularity in recent years, the new generation of young adults is yet to realize the full extent of the problems we are facing and the toll ongoing deforestation is bound to have on the environment and overall life quality, directly affecting us and the generations to come. When discussing important environmental issues faced both currently and in the past few decades, we often fail to acknowledge the root problems of these phenomena, to analyse other less known or better said less intuitive factors that contribute either directly or indirectly to the process of deforestation. Harmful illegal actions that contribute to excessive logging go unnoticed by most of the citizens, classifying these processes as not posing a significant threat. As a result, the continuation of the process of deforestation is still in full effect. Thus, we chose to focus on the area of the so-called “Carpathian Garden”, aiming to support 36 young adults from countries which share through their geographical position parts of the Carpathian mountains, in an effort to increase their awareness regarding this subject and in terms diminishing illegal wood cutting, one of the root problems that contribute to the deforestation process : the chosen countries are Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. Goal: Increase the awareness regarding the process of deforestation and tree-poaching in the geographical area of the Carpathian Garden among 36 youngsters aged 18-23 from RO, HU, SK and PL by the end of the project. Specific objectives: O1: Develop the awareness of the ongoing devastating environmental process among 36 youngsters aged 18-23 from RO, HU, SK, PL by presenting them with relevant environmental-related subjects by the end of the project. O2: Familiarize 36 young adults aged 18-23 from RO, HU, SK and PL with aspects regarding the importance of conservation emphasizing the exhaustibility of environmental resources by the end of the project O3: Empower 36 young participants aged 18-23 from RO, HU, SK and PL to develop their active citizenship competences, while learning ways to recognise illegal tree poaching instances by the end of the project Our project is also in line with the following European Youth Goals (2019-2027): -Sustainable Green Europe; -Connecting EU with Youth; -Quality learning; -Inclusive Societies; -Equality of All Genders; -Youth organizations & European Programmes. Additionally, our project is highly aligned with the Erasmus+ main objectives, providing the participating youngsters with valuable competences and developing their skills and knowledge in different domains as follows: Environment and fight against climate change - The relevance our project has in connection to this objective is indisputable, as it directly encourages good practices in the field of environmental issues and raises awareness to aspects that contribute to climate change. Inclusion and Diversity - By presenting our participants with a common issue dealt with by all their respective countries, they will feel a deep sense of connection and empathy among one another, facilitating dialogue and inclusion. Digital Transformation - The importance of digitalization in today’s society will not be lost over the duration of the mobility, as we will have a dedicated session on the role of technology in combating tree poaching where participants will be asked to conduct research in fields such as satellite imagery aid in identifying illegal deforestation instances, as well as come up with different innovative ideas in which the use of technology may prove to be a viable option in combating this process. Participation in democratic life, common values and civic engagement - Through interacting with other participants coming from different cultural backgrounds, each young adult will find themselves sharing common values among each other.
