Objectives

The project started from a series of needs identified during informal meetings with young people in the partner countries. After identifying these needs, we started to build ideas based on them. Through this initiative we wanted to address and we addressed the following needs among those identified: Organizations need both resources and specialized expertise to design and implement educational initiatives focused on media literacy and critical thinking, aimed at combating the spread of disinformation. There is also a clear need to strengthen inter-institutional links, by building partnerships with other organizations, schools and universities, as well as with decision-makers, in order to launch collaborative projects that encourage civic participation and mitigate the effects of false information. Young people need to strengthen media literacy by developing critical analysis capacities and recognizing fake news as well as unreliable sources. Just as important is the cultivation of solid critical thinking skills, the ability to evaluate content and distinguish factual information from personal opinions is fundamental to playing an informed and active role in democratic society. Beyond these skills, young Europeans should be motivated to participate in democratic life through debates, community projects at local level and educational programmes that promote democratic principles and common European values. Based on these needs, our general aim was to strengthen young people’s media and digital skills as a means of combating online disinformation. The specific objectives pursued were: O1: Strengthen media literacy by deepening participants’ development on how the media works, through interactive sessions, with the target of 80% of participants achieving a score of at least 70% in a final assessment. O2: Combating disinformation through practical learning about the role and social function of the media, using study visits and thematic workshops, culminating in a final product exploring the impact of the media on democracy, which will reach an audience of at least 50 colleagues. O3: Developing new digital skills among young participants by launching either a social media campaign or a podcast dedicated to promoting media literacy and European citizenship, with the aim of generating a minimum of 100 interactions. O4: Promoting European values and combating fake news through practical, applied activities, more precisely by creating, on days 7 and 8, a digital storyboard that includes three examples of responsible media narratives, along with ten strategies for combating disinformation, to be distributed to at least 50 people.
