Objectives

The project “Roots & Routes: Cultural Transmission in the Rural–Urban Shift” aims to provide young people with the opportunity to explore, document, and reflect on how culture is transmitted between generations and how identities transform in the transition from rural to urban life. Through non-formal education methods, the project supported participants in analysing how cultural values and identities are inherited, reshaped, and reinterpreted in the context of migration and urbanisation. These themes were explored through interactive workshops, national and international group activities, study visits, and discussions facilitated by experts. Another key objective was to strengthen participants’ competences in creative writing, filmmaking, and media, enabling them to share their perspectives on cultural heritage in creative and contemporary ways. The programme included practical activities in photography, short film production, and creative writing, encouraging artistic expression and critical reflection. The project also aimed to create a collaborative international space where young people from different countries could compare their experiences related to rural–urban transition and cultural change. By promoting intercultural dialogue and teamwork, it encouraged participants to reflect on the role of youth in preserving and adapting cultural heritage. At the same time, it motivated them to become more active in their local communities by applying the knowledge and skills acquired during the exchange to future initiatives. An additional focus was placed on promoting sustainable lifestyle practices.
