Objectives

This project aimed to raise awareness among young people and develop proactive behaviors for preventing and tackling discrimination, hate speech, and microaggressions, by enriching their socio-emotional and digital competences and cultivating an inclusive, open attitude toward a diverse society. The need for the project was grounded in clear evidence. The 2023 Eurobarometer on discrimination highlighted that 51% of EU respondents reported workplace stereotypes, with Bulgaria at 46% and Spain at 54%. In countries like Bulgaria and Romania, ethnic minorities—particularly Roma communities—continued to face significant social exclusion. Discrimination based on gender, disability, migration status, and sexual orientation persisted across all partner countries, with young people often lacking the tools to recognize and respond to it. To validate these needs within our target communities, all five partner organizations administered a questionnaire that gathered 32 responses from individuals aged 16–30. Over 74% of respondents had encountered discrimination, inequality, or limited access tof opportunities. As one respondent noted: "Knowledge is the opposite of discrimination. Having the skills and the information to feel empathy for the other is the key." Based on these findings, the project pursued three core objectives: O1: To increase the awareness and knowledge of 30 youngsters about stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination during the 8-day mobility, measured through pre-post-activity surveys, group discussions, and presentations, aimed at fostering a safer and more inclusive environment. O2: To support and develop the socio-emotional skills and capacities needed to take on an active role in preventing and combating discrimination among 30 youngsters during the 8-day youth exchange. O3: To improve the critical thinking ability and information sourcing skills of 30 participants, assessed through problem-solving activities, media analysis, and the creation of digital stories reflecting informed perspectives, during the 8-day youth exchange.
