Objectives

Our project addresses the challenges youth workers face in creating inclusive spaces and supporting informed decision-making among young people from diverse backgrounds, including minorities, Roma, migrants, and refugees. In many European communities, youth workers struggle to navigate diversity and address the unique needs of these groups. Effective facilitation is crucial for fostering inclusive discussions, yet many youth workers lack the necessary skills to manage group dynamics and resolve conflicts. Empowering young people to participate in decision-making is essential for building just and inclusive societies. The European Youth Forum highlights that youth participation in decision-making is fundamental for a democratic Europe. Engaging young people in shaping policies ensures inclusion and strengthens communities. Romania has the highest percentage of NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) youth in the EU, followed closely by Italy and Greece. In 2022, 11.7% of EU youth aged 15-29 were classified as NEET. Although this rate has been decreasing, reducing it to 9% by 2030 remains a priority under the European Pillar of Social Rights. Addressing this issue requires initiatives that offer young people from disadvantaged backgrounds opportunities for growth, skill development, and societal integration. One such initiative is our Training Course Program, which provides youth from rural areas, minority backgrounds, and financial hardships with opportunities to develop skills, gain international exposure, and enhance employability. Participants learn about their EU rights, intercultural communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, strengthening their competitiveness in the job market. This initiative contributes to reducing the NEET rate and fostering a more inclusive European society. Our project supports youth workers in navigating diversity and facilitating discussions within youth groups. Many youth workers lack training in managing group dynamics, addressing conflicts, and guiding youth participation. Promoting youth engagement is key to building democratic and inclusive societies. Through research and experience from previous projects, our partner organizations have developed a Mobility Project to equip youth workers with tools to engage young people in decision-making processes. S.M.A.R.T objectives of the project are: - Enhance 40 youth workers' understanding of the facilitator's role in creating a just and inclusive society, and equip them with effective strategies for guiding discussions, fostering youth participation, and managing group dynamics. - Measure 40 participants' knowledge and skills through pre- and post-training assessments, evaluating their comprehension of facilitation concepts and ability to apply strategies in practical scenarios with young people with fewer opportunities, especially with minority, Roma, migrants and refugee backgrounds. - Provide 1 comprehensive training module, interactive workshops, and real-world case studies to enable 40 youth workers to develop the necessary skills and mindset for effective facilitation with and for youth groups with diverse backgrounds. - Addressing the facilitator's role and group dynamics aligns with the broader goal of enhancing 40 youth workers' ability to create inclusive spaces and support informed decision-making in local communities. - By the end of the training course, 40 youth workers on behalf of 10 partner organisations should be proficient in guiding discussions, promoting youth participation, addressing conflicts, and fostering consensus within youth groups. Learning objectives of the training course: Recognize how effective facilitation can contribute to creating safe and inclusive spaces for diverse youth groups. Gain practical techniques for facilitating meaningful discussions that encourage active participation and diverse viewpoints. Learn methods to create an open and respectful environment for sharing ideas and perspectives. Acquire strategies to foster youth engagement and participation, especially for young people with fewer opportunities. Develop skills to manage group dynamics, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere. Recognize the connection between facilitation skills and supporting informed decision-making within local communities. Employ conflict resolution techniques to manage disagreements within youth groups. Facilitate consensus-building processes that honour diverse perspectives and promote informed decisions. We will achieve the objectives of this Mobility project by: Enhancing participants' understanding of the facilitator's role in youth work and its impact on creating just and inclusive communities. Facilitating the exchange of principles and practices of partner organisations related to youth participation and informed decision-making through engaging non-formal methods. This exchange will particularly benefit young people with culturally diverse backgrounds.
