There is something about walking through the hallways of "Onisifor Ghibu" high-school that makes you reflect on the past while imagining the future. For us at GreenHope, those hallways are more than just a memory—they are where we first discovered curiosity, ambition, and a world beyond Cluj-Napoca. It is also where we realized that too many students, despite their potential, intelligence, and dreams, have never had the chance to truly see that world. the project idea was born from a simple but urgent realization: while Cluj-Napoca thrives as a European city (even wanted to be a European capital for culture or youth), many of its youth have never had the chance to fully experience what it means to be European. Through our engagement with current students—some of whom are now our newest volunteers—we were surprised by how few had participated in mobility projects or even knew they existed. This gap is not due to a lack of ambition, but to limited information, financial constraints, and the invisible borders of self-doubt. In a time when political uncertainty and Eurosceptic narratives are gaining ground, we believe it is more important than ever to create a project that shows young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, that Europe is theirs to explore, understand, and contribute to. Thus, EuroTracks is not just about traveling; it is about opening doors that, for some, have always seemed closed. This project is designed by students, for students, with the goal of turning their first European experience into the start of a lifelong journey—one where they see themselves not just as Clujeni, not just as Romanians, but as active citizens of a shared European future. What do we want to achieve? Our project follows clear SMART objectives, ensuring that our impact is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound: 1. Empowering Youth from All Backgrounds – We will provide 20 young participants, particularly those from underrepresented communities, with the skills and confidence needed to navigate their own futures. Success will be measured by their increased ability to articulate personal goals, with self-reflection surveys before, during, and after the project. 2. Fostering Intercultural Understanding – By taking participants to Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava, and Prague, we will create immersive cultural experiences that broaden their perspectives and help them connect with peers from diverse backgrounds. Through pre- and post-trip cultural awareness assessments, we will track their evolving attitudes toward European identity and cross-cultural collaboration. 3. Encouraging Personal Development – We want participants to step outside their comfort zones, whether that means navigating a new city, speaking a foreign language, or initiating a conversation with someone from a different culture. Each student will complete a personal growth plan, with a follow-up three months post-trip to assess how they have applied what they learned. 4. Enhancing Employability and Future Prospects – Many of our participants come from backgrounds where career guidance is limited. This project will expose them to new industries, professions, and possibilities. Through job shadowing experiences and hands-on learning opportunities, participants will gain practical skills in communication, teamwork, and adaptability, all of which will be measured through peer and mentor feedback sessions. 5. Strengthening Social Inclusion and Community Engagement – EuroTracks prioritizes accessibility, ensuring that young people who would otherwise lack the means or confidence to participate in European mobility programs are actively included. To sustain our impact beyond the project, participants will also contribute to the revival of "LOGO", the school magazine, where they will document their experiences to inspire future students. Why is this project important? Because we’ve been in their shoes. We have felt the uncertainty of wondering if opportunities like this were meant for "someone else"—someone richer, someone more connected, someone from another school. But they’re not. They belong to everyone. And just as others once opened doors for us, we now want to do the same for the next generation. EuroTracks is more than a project (in our opinion). It is a message to every student at Ghibu—especially those who think that international experiences are out of their reach—that the world is waiting for them, and that they belong in it.
