Objectives

This youth exchange was created by members of the 2021-2023 dance project The Food Must Go On (TFMGO), a youth-led, co-created art initiative blending dance and food. It culminated in a dance performance in June 2023 at Sprakateatern in Uppsala (available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d-OTkv2q54&t=10s). Over two years, the dance crew developed their creative, social, and food-related knowledge, including political, social, environmental, and economic aspects of the food value chain. They delivered valuable community work that attracted young people to Bruised Food Club (BFC). As those dancers, we received positive feedback from youth interested in exploring sustainability through art. We carried out this Erasmus+ Youth Exchange to offer young people from different cultures a chance to explore their connection with food and empower them to contribute creatively to sustainable food systems, as we did. The project objectives were: Connect to oneself and one’s own health through dance, human interaction, movement workshops, reflection, self-expression, mindfulness, and nature connection. Encourage reflection on our personal and societal relationships with food, exploring social, environmental, and political implications through lived experiences and self-directed learning. Build an intercultural community by strengthening cooperation and exchange through collaborative dance and movement. Raise awareness of food systems and environmental issues using dance as an artistic educational tool. Support artistic expression and performance by guiding participants to create a food-themed dance performance, culminating in a final showcase that would extend the project’s impact beyond participants.
