With the project, we aimed to provide young people from three different local contexts – Slovenia, Serbia, and Montenegro – with a safe, supportive, and intercultural learning environment in which they could connect through a youth exchange, grow on a personal level, and become empowered for an active role in society. The project is based on the awareness that young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, are increasingly experiencing social isolation, a lack of opportunities for inclusion, mental health challenges, limited employment prospects, and a shortage of intercultural dialogue and participation in the community. The central purpose of the project was to strengthen volunteering as a tool for social inclusion, solidarity, and active citizenship, and to enable young people, through the exchange of good practices within the Caritas network, to acquire concrete knowledge, skills, and experiences that they can transfer to their local environments. At the same time, the project represents a continuation of the long-standing cooperation between Caritas Maribor, Caritas Aleksinac, and Caritas Montenegro, which we intentionally sought to pass on to a younger generation of volunteers, thereby ensuring the sustainability of cooperation and shared values. The objectives of the project were to: • promote intercultural dialogue and understanding among young people from different cultural, national, and social backgrounds and to reduce prejudice; • strengthen solidarity and volunteering as core values of Caritas and as a concrete response to social challenges; • enable the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and good practices in youth work and volunteering among partner organizations; • promote the social inclusion of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, and provide them with a sense of belonging and shared responsibility; • develop young people’s social, communication, organizational, and leadership competences; • strengthen digital competences and promote an understanding of the responsible use of digital tools and the basics of digital entrepreneurship; • promote the values of the European Union, such as human dignity, equality, democracy, human rights, and active citizenship; • establish and strengthen sustainable international partnerships among young people and organizations in the region. Through the project, we therefore sought to contribute to the personal growth of young people, strengthen their resilience and initiative, and support the development of more inclusive, supportive, and connected local communities in which young people are recognized as drivers of positive social change.
